Best low-stakes games for a Bonfire Night night in

Bonfire Night is 5 November in the UK. Four gentle games for staying in under a blanket while the fireworks go off – no loud bangs required.

Bonfire Night is a UK event: Thursday 5 November marks Guy Fawkes Night in the United Kingdom, when organised firework displays and backyard sparklers fill the evening sky. If you’re staying in while the bangs go off – in the UK or anywhere else where the neighbours are loud that night – here are four gentle games that work under a blanket. No loud in-game explosions required.

Four low-stakes picks

  • Village in the Shade (already out) – a farming sim with a slight twist, set in a Japanese mountain village that isn’t quite as cosy as it first looks. Console versions landed in late October; it’s a good one if you want something absorbing you can pause when a firework goes up.
  • Cozy Game Restoration (out this week on PC) – slow restoration work and a quiet atmosphere. Steam lists Wednesday 4 November 2026 for the Windows/Mac launch, so it should be ready in time for fireworks night.
  • Stardew Valley or Spiritfarer (existing libraries) – classic comfort picks if you already own them. Both reward a slow evening without punishing you for putting the controller down mid-task.
  • Minecraft (especially the Switch 2 version, which arrived on 27 October) – build something quiet. Creative mode or a peaceful survival world is ideal when you don’t want combat interrupting the blanket nest.

Soft screen time on the side

Pair a session with a warm drink and one or two episodes of something soft. For gentler anime, our slice-of-life comfort picks and anime films for a cosy night in are the live lists to browse – streaming catalogues vary by country, so check your local service before you settle in.

Make the sofa workable

For the physical side of a long sofa night, our sister site What2Buy (a UK guide site) has practical desk-and-seat guides – try its gaming chairs round-up or the cable-management picks if you’re tidying the setup before you dig in. Picks and prices there are for UK shoppers; if you’re elsewhere, use them for ideas and check local stores. We don’t list prices here.

Have a quiet one – whether the fireworks are outside your window or you’re just borrowing the mood from afar.
