Slice-of-life anime for when you need something comfy

Some evenings you don’t want cliffhangers, villains or a 40-episode commitment. You want people being kind to each other, nice food and something pretty to look at. That’s what slice-of-life anime is for – gentle shows about ordinary days that somehow make your own feel a bit lighter.

All five picks below stream on Crunchyroll in many regions, but catalogues vary by country, so check your local service before you get the blanket out.

Laid-Back Camp

Girls go camping in the mountains around Mount Fuji, cook noodles and talk about gas stoves. That’s it, and it’s perfect. Three seasons plus a film are out, and a fourth season is set for 2027 – plenty of time to catch up.

Skip and Loafer

A bright, slightly awkward country girl starts high school in Tokyo and accidentally befriends everyone. It’s warm, funny and unusually thoughtful about friendship. One season so far, with a second confirmed for April 2027.

Bocchi the Rock!

A painfully shy guitarist gets dragged into a band. Comfy and chaotic at the same time, with brilliant animation of social anxiety and some genuinely great songs. A second season has been announced, though without a date yet.

Natsume’s Book of Friends

A boy who can see spirits returns their names from a book left by his grandmother. Each episode is a small, often bittersweet story – ideal for one episode before bed. There are many seasons, so it lasts all winter.

Honorary pick: Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End

Technically a fantasy, but it plays like a slice-of-life about memory and time: an elf mage revisits the places she travelled with friends decades before. Season 2 premiered on Crunchyroll in January 2026, so there’s a good run to settle into.

How to watch comfy anime

• One or two episodes a night is the sweet spot – these shows reward slowness.
• Snacks are compulsory. Laid-Back Camp will make you hungry.
• Subtitles or dub? Either works for slice-of-life – see our sub vs dub guide.
