Worlds 2026 storylines fans are talking about: T1's four-peat bid, the LPL's wobble and a Western revival
Can T1 win a fourth Worlds in a row? Why did the LPL start 0–4? Are LYON and Movistar KOI for real? The talking points from League of Legends Worlds 2026, as of 25 October.
As of 25 October 2026. Two rounds into the Swiss Stage, Worlds 2026 already has plenty to argue about. These are the conversations dominating fan forums, co-streams and group chats. Where a story depends on matches that haven’t been played yet, we say so rather than predict them.
1. Can T1 make it four in a row?
T1 beat KT Rolster 3–2 in the 2025 final in Chengdu, the first Worlds three-peat in the competition’s history. So the question hanging over 2026 is obvious: four? They opened with a win over LOS, then lost a long game to Dplus KIA after controlling much of it. At 1–1 they face CTBC Flying Oyster on Monday 26 October. One loss isn’t a crisis in a Swiss format, but there’s no longer any slack.
2. Dplus KIA’s comeback habit
Dplus KIA are 2–0, and both wins needed late turnarounds. Dot Esports described the decisive teamfight against T1 as a classic Elder Dragon flip, and Hotspawn credited support Career’s Renata Glasc for the late fight. Fans are split: is it nerves of steel, or a team that keeps falling behind early and will eventually get punished for it? The best-of-three against Movistar KOI today should tell us more.
3. Gen.G look like the team to beat
Gen.G beat Invictus Gaming and then dominated Hanwha Life in a game Dot Esports clocked at 29 minutes, with the bot lane of Ruler and Duro doing much of the damage. For many fans they’re now the pre-knockout favourite. Their best-of-three against LYON today is the first real test of that.
4. The LPL’s 0–4 start, and the bounce-back
All four Chinese teams lost on day one, which almost never happens. Day two was better: Top Esports, Invictus Gaming and Bilibili Gaming all won, though Top Esports’ win came against fellow LPL side Anyone’s Legend. That left the LPL’s top seed, Anyone’s Legend, at 0–2 and facing elimination in a best-of-three against Team Liquid Alienware on Monday. Is this a blip or a sign of a real gap with the LCK? Monday’s results will shape the conversation.
5. Is the West actually back?
Movistar KOI (LEC) and LYON (LCS) are both 2–0, and Karmine Corp came through the Play-Ins and beat Anyone’s Legend in Round 1 before losing a thriller to LYON. Dot Esports called that one “another long-awaited entry in the NA vs EU saga”. Western fans have been burned before, so the mood is cautious hope. If either team wins today’s best-of-three, they’re in the quarter-finals.
6. An American Worlds
This is Worlds on US soil, with the knockouts in Allen, Texas, the final in Brooklyn, New York, on 14 November, and a Worlds Fan Fest at Pier 36 in Manhattan from 12 to 14 November. For European and UK viewers, that means evening knockouts at 22:00 UK time and a final at a friendly 19:00. For fans in Korea and China, it means early-morning alarms. Our how-to-watch guide has the times in every major zone.
7. The Play-In grinders
Karmine Corp played three best-of-fives just to reach the Swiss Stage, including a 3–2 opener against Cloud9, and then won their first Swiss game anyway. Brazil’s FURIA and the LCP’s MVK also had long Play-In runs before going out. If KC make the knockouts after that schedule, it’ll be one of the stories of the tournament. That hasn’t happened yet: they’re 1–1 and play Bilibili Gaming on Monday.
