What to watch, play and stream this week: 26 October – 1 November 2026

Halloween week. The scary stuff is mostly on TV this time, while the games side is led by a wuxia action RPG that’s been a long time coming, plus Minecraft getting its proper Switch 2 version. Game dates are worldwide unless we name a region; streaming availability varies by country, so check your local service.

The headliner: Phantom Blade Zero

S-GAME’s “kungfupunk” action RPG mixes wuxia martial arts, dark fantasy and folk horror. It was pushed back from September to Thursday 29 October, and it’s on PS5 and PC. The PlayStation Store lists the unlock as 02:00 UTC on the 29th, so depending on where you live it may open on the evening of Wednesday 28th. If you liked Sekiro or the recent run of Chinese action games, put this one at the top of your list.

For everyone: Minecraft on Switch 2

The native Switch 2 version arrives on Tuesday 27 October, with Vibrant Visuals turned on by default and an updated Super Mario Mash-Up pack. If you already own Minecraft digitally on Switch, Mojang says the Standard Edition upgrade is free in most territories until the end of January 2027 (Japan, Taiwan and Thailand have a small fee). One catch: Vibrant Visuals doesn’t work in split-screen.

For story fans: The Wolf Among Us Remastered

Telltale’s fairy-tale noir returns on Thursday 29 October on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. The Switch version was delayed at short notice and still has no new date, so if you were planning to play it on Switch, keep an eye out. It’s a good fit for Halloween week if you like your mysteries grim but not gory.

Spooky and seasonal

The Séance of Blake Manor reaches consoles on Tuesday (it’s on Game Pass), and it’s a detective mystery set on the run-up to All Hallows’ Eve, which makes for very good timing. Remothered: Red Nun’s Legacy is the survival-horror pick. Village in the Shade is a farming sim set in a Japanese mountain village that turns out to be not quite as cosy as it looks.

Anime game of the week

Demon Slayer fans on Switch 2 get The Hinokami Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition on Thursday 29 October, with a sharper picture and 60fps. Dates are confirmed for North America and Japan; check your local eShop for other regions.

TV and streaming

Streaming catalogues differ from country to country, so check your local service.

• The One About Matthew Perry (Netflix, Tuesday 27 October) – a three-part documentary told by his family and friends.
• Nocturne (Apple TV, worldwide, Friday 30 October) – Liev Schreiber, Stephen Graham and Zazie Beetz in a serial-killer thriller. Two episodes on launch day, then weekly. Our spooky season binge list has more.
• Dexter: Resurrection season 2 (Paramount+, Friday 30 October) – US: Paramount+ with the Premium plan. Other regions: check your local Paramount+ or broadcaster.
• Dead-End Job (Netflix, Friday 30 October) – an eight-episode Korean horror-mystery about a debtor lured into very bad gig work.
• YAGA – UK & Ireland: Sky and NOW from Saturday 31 October (it started on 23 October in the US on AMC+ and in Canada on Crave).
• The Gilded Age season 4 – US: HBO and HBO Max from Sunday 1 November. Elsewhere it depends on your local HBO partner.

Anime this week

Netflix’s three-episode My Happy Marriage special landed worldwide on Sunday 25 October, so it’s a perfect one to catch up on early in the week. There are no big new series this week; the Fall 2026 season is in its middle stretch, so this is a good time to catch up. The Bulletin’s pick of the week

If you only do one thing: Phantom Blade Zero on Thursday, then Nocturne on Friday night for a properly dark Halloween weekend. If you’d rather something gentler, The Séance of Blake Manor is spooky without being scary.
